When’s the last time you’ve done something crazy… something spontaneous? Don’t know? Well let me help you out with that, bring your best friend along as well. Make it a bonding session. Now let’s do something crazy in your retirement.
1. Go to a nude beach
Now I know what you’re thinking, “I don’t want anyone seeing me naked.” There is no judgment at a nude beach, you’re all free and definitely letting loose. Crack open a bottle of wine and have a picnic by the beach. Have a nice warm dip in the ocean, feel the warm sand… everywhere. There are some amazing health benefits to letting the sun reach every nook and cranny of your body, like helping you live longer. Plus no tan lines. Some doctors even recommend UVB therapy to treat many skin conditions, go to a nude beach and you get that for free. And you haven’t really bonded with your best friend until you’ve seen them in their birthday suit.
2. Go skydiving
Let’s face it, why would anyone jump out of a perfectly good plane? Because it’s crazy and fun, that’s the theme folks, still with me? Skydiving is an event in your life that you’ll never forget. Psychologists say trying high risk activities is essential for the perpetuation of the human species. When you skydive, you focus on what you are doing and on nothing else. You forget all your worries. A video came out in 2016, of an 84 year old grandma skydiving. If she can do it, then you can do it.
3. Sneak backstage at your favorite concert
Want to see your musical idol up close and personal? Grab your best friend and hatch a plan to sneak backstage. Scope out the area and possible entry points, bribe some security guards. If you take the time and plan well, you might just be able to see your idol in the flesh. Play your cards right and you might share a moment with your idol by catering services, sharing a celery stick with you and your bestie.
4. Take a surprise road trip
Pick a direction and go! Grab your best friend and drive. It’s your retirement so you have all the time in the world. Sometimes nothing is more soothing to the soul than having a road trip to nowhere. Take your car or even crazier rent a nice sports car and let the top down and have the wind flowing through your hair. Take the road less traveled and grab an audiobook you can both share (I recommend Travels with Charley). Don’t let roads be your only obstacle, grab a four wheel drive and try off-roading. Nothing says bonding like a long trip with your best friend.
5. Go on stage
Whether it’s a wild night at karaoke, or an attempt at stand up comedy, or even a stage play, there’s a lot to be said for the stage when it comes to bonding. There’s just something about those nervous jitters beforehand, and the elation you get after going on stage, that will make you and your BFF feel like you’ve been on an actual life changing journey together. Plus, whether you sink or swim, there’ll always be a hilarious story about that time the two of you branched out and gave the performance of a lifetime. So go out there and break a leg.
Whatever your fears of phobias may be, it’s always going to be better to face them with a friend by your side. If something on this list calls to you, but you get a little nervous about the plan, whether it be from fear of heights, audiences, or the general fear of embarrassment, remember that old saying, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
